新規開発されたポリウレタンフォームプリンス
キャビネットには、特殊ポリウレタンを採用。更に進化したtancast 8 ポリウレタンフォームを初めて採用。Tuncast 8は航空宇宙産業用に開発された材質で、優れた「軽さ」「硬さ」で注目されているハイテク素材です。
RP8/10で世間を驚かしたスケルトンデザインを更に進化させました。質量の分配を更に見直し、キャビネットのデザインに改良を加え、更に、30%の以上の軽量化を実現させています。
デュアルブレイシング・テクノロジー
‘スケレタル・デザイン’に加えて、異種合金でつくられた2枚のプレートを天面と底面に加えたデュアルブレイシング・テクノロジーにより、アームベースとプラッターの軸上、その2点を結ぶエリアに剛性のアップと優れたバランス配分を実現しています。さらに、プレートの形状を見直したことで、更に軽く精度のよいベアリングの採用が可能となり、不要なエネルギーの発生を抑えることに成功しました。天面にはマグネシウムで成形されたプレート、底面に独自配合でつくられたフェノール材のプレート、という、軽くて、剛性の高い異種合金が採用され、素材の独特の音質を避けるだけでなく、不要な鳴りと音のエネルギー感の損失を防ぎます。Planar 8では、底面のフェノール材が3mmと厚さが増したことにより剛性のアップに貢献しています。
3レイヤーズ・グラスプラッター
好評の3層構造のカスタム・グラスプラッターを引き続き採用。プラッターの材質として、ピルキントングラスを採用、このピルキントングラスをカスタマイズ化し、質量のバランスがよく、音質的に優れたガラスプラッターを開発、ガラスは、平面加工が難しいされてきましたが、ロンドンにあるグラス加工ブランドとの共同開発により、表面が「完全に平ら」で、バランスのよりガラスプラッターを開発することに成功しました。慣性モーメントと剛性を維持しながら、プラッターを動作させるため、Super flywheel 構造を採用し、外周は3層構造となっています。Planar 8のガラスプラッターには、従来のスモークタイプ（２層）と透き通るようなクリアーさが人気のオプティホワイト（1層）を採用し、デザインでも貢献しています。アルミダイキャスト性のサブ・プラッターを新規採用し、滑らかで、バランスがよく、ベアリングに不要な負担をかけない構造を実現しています。
カスタムモーター/ ベルト
モーターには、2相24v ACシンクロナス低電圧モーターの性能をさらに引き出すため、Roy Gandyのプライベートプロジェクト Naiadaシリーズで開発されたテクノロジーを初めてPlanarシリーズに採用、モーターへの電圧供給と振動対策を一層強化し、音質に大きく影響する回転制御がより高くなっています。ベルトも、今回、新規で開発されています。従来のBelt-Upgradedの上をいく最高クラスのベルトの開発のため、原材料から見直しをかけました。ゴムを原料とした別注品の科学系素材を使い、さらに切れにくく、滑らかで、たるみにくい形状を開発。トルクに優れ、ワウ・フラッターの改善にも大きな効果のあるこのベルトこそ、’Perfect’と呼ぶにふさわしいターンテーブル用ベルトです。
Power supply unit ；Neo PSU
電源ユニットを一新し、より正確な電源供給を実現し、回転ムラやモーターの鳴りを抑えています。Neo PSUは、RP10同様ジェネレーター機能を搭載し、DSPによって「ほぼ完全な」波形を生成し、Planar8本体に供給することが出来るようになりました。これにより、回転ムラは勿論のこと、鳴りを抑えることができ、不な振動が、プラッターやキャビネットに伝わらないようにしています。出荷前に1台ごとに、調整して出荷されているので、開梱後、ユーザーが調整する必要はありません。
RB880 トーンアームを搭載
発売以来高い評価をされているRB330のテクノロジーを一層進化させた、ハイエンドクラスのアームがいよいよ開発され、製品となりました。銘記RB808をベースに、新RBシリーズの開発の中で獲得した様々な新テクノロジーを惜しみなく投入。0.001mmの精度の中で動作するベアリングを初め、それを支える正確なアッセンブルと高い硬度を誇るアルミとステンレスを巧みに組み合わせることで、剛性と柔軟性に優れたアームの開発に成功しました。さらに、RB880のアームのパイプは一層スリムになっており、アームに求められる柔軟性や、対応力がより高められています。カウンターウェイトも新規で開発されており、異種合金で造ることにより、振動を分散させるだけなく、ウェイトそのものも小さくなっています。また、今回はPhonoケーブルも新規で開発されており。ケーブルの高音質化は勿論、ターミナルの接続性も改善されており、接点でのロス等が発生しないような設計となっています。
